A Journey in to the Past
Penrhyn was built in 1937 and Mr and Mrs Normington, as a newly married couple, were its first proud occupants. The price they paid for this beautiful property was the princely sum of £ 500!
Penrhyn remained with them until 2004 when we chanced to drive past and see a “For Sale” sign in the front garden. The rest is history because we immediately knew that this was the property we had been searching for over many years!
Penrhyn still retains some original features, fixtures and fittings from the past including the dining room, china cabinet and bedroom chairs.
The original garden shed (sited where the summerhouse now stands) held a magnificent array of old tools, nails and screws. In addition to these, spiked on a wire, were bills receipts and invoices going back as far as 1937. A selection of these can be seen below. They range from the receipts for Mrs Normington’s wedding ring and flowers to the bill for Mr Normington’s retirement watch.
We hope you will enjoy looking at these documents and perhaps, through them, get a glimpse of life here at Penrhyn over the past eight decades.
